ResMed Supplies

If you must use a ResMed machine, you have to have . Unfortunately, your sleeping issues aren't going to disappear overnight although I'm sure you wish that they would. Supplies are necessary to keep the machine working properly and you breathing.

When you are first diagnosed with sleep apnea, if you don't know much about it you may think it's no big deal. Then when you find out what you need to get a good night's rest, your thoughts will certainly change. You have to have the machine itself, then there is the mask and then there might be some other items you'll need to take home.

Extra supplies

You may also want to consider a humidifier, an extra mask (perhaps a different style), a screening unit, extra tubing, spare valves, and of course a battery pack and travel bag when it's time for a vacation. Yes, you have to take your gear with you; did you think your sleep apnea won't bother you while you are away?

Your basic will probably be the standard items that everyone gets. These are the machine, a tube and mask. When you first get your machine, you should get a lesson in the basics as to how to properly use the machine. You should be advised the care that it requires to keep it functioning accordingly. Care such as using distilled water (if you have a humidifier too), when to change filters (if any) and other basic maintenance that may be required.

You should also be advised how long your will typically last. You should also be advised as to why certain items should be replaced; even if you think that replacement isn't necessary. The bottom line is that your health is at stake and having the proper tools to keep you healthy is the number one priority.

Why should you replace your ? The answer is to maintain the effectiveness of each item and to keep you comfortable. Another reason is for hygienic reasons. Everything wears out over time, as we all know and it helps to understand when and why certain things should be replaced. Your headgear may become chipped or crack, the cushions and/or pillows will lose their softness and begin to deteriorate. Tubing can crack or tear and the water chamber could crack. The air filter (just like the filters in your car or home) has to be changed so that the motor functions properly.

When should you replace various items? It is recommended that your masks cushions and pillows and also the machines filters should be replaced on a monthly basis. Your mask (not the headgear) and tubing should be checked and replaced about every three months if necessary. The headgear, chin strap and water chamber should be given a once over every six months.

The information provided here is a guideline. Everyone will have different circumstances based on how they sleep, how long they sleep, does the equipment go on business trips and of course there is always unforeseen circumstances that arise. Having the right when you need them is important for your health.
